"I loved the idea for Town of Runners from the start," says producer Al Morrow. "It's a challenge to find finance for films which aren't in English, are feature length and are about Africa. But we had a strong hook with the tie-in to the 2012 London Olympics.

"We knew we needed to make a pilot to introduce the characters and the story to potential funders. We were lucky to get a grant from the CBA/DFID Fund (now WorldView) to do an initial shoot in Bekoji."
